We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have, we will delete it and close the account. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, contact us at adam@getinsteadof.com.
Teens (13–17). We do not sell teens’ personal information or use it for targeted advertising without the consent required by applicable law.
6. Screen Time data
We treat Screen Time data as sensitive and give it extra protection.
Screen Time data. Our screen time features use Apple’s Screen Time frameworks (Family Controls, Managed Settings, and Device Activity) and the Android equivalent. Apple’s frameworks identify apps with private tokens, so we do not see which specific apps you use. The app usage information these frameworks process stays on your device and is not sent to us. When you create a profile, we store the Screen Time settings you set, such as limits and schedules, with your account so they are saved. We never use Screen Time data for advertising or profiling, and we do not share it with advertising partners.
7. Advertising, analytics, and tracking
We use analytics tools to understand how the Services are used, and we may show ads to users through advertising partners. These partners may collect device identifiers, approximate location, and app usage data to show ads and measure their performance.
Your choices:
iOS: We ask your permission before tracking you across other companies’ apps and websites (App Tracking Transparency). You can change this in Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking.
Android: You can reset or delete your advertising ID in your device settings.
Targeted advertising opt-out: Some US state laws treat sharing data for targeted advertising as a “sale” or “sharing.” You can opt out at any time through the in-app setting “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” or by emailing adam@getinsteadof.com. We also honor Global Privacy Control signals where required.
Marketing emails: Use the unsubscribe link in any marketing email.
Website cookies. If you visit our website, we and our partners may use cookies and similar technologies. You can manage them through our cookie banner or your browser settings.
8. Retention, security, and international transfers
Retention. We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes in this policy:
Data
How long we keep it
Account and profile data
While your account is active, then deleted within 30 days of closure
Screen Time settings saved to your profile
Until you turn off the feature or delete your account
Information about a child under 13 collected by mistake
Deleted promptly once we learn of it
Payment and transaction records
7 years, as required for tax and accounting
Analytics and logs
24 months
We may keep limited information longer when the law requires it or to resolve disputes.
Security. We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards. These include encryption in transit and at rest, access controls, and limiting employee access. No system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. If a data breach affects your information, we will notify you as required by law.
International transfers. We are based in the United States, and our service providers may process data in the US and other countries. Data protection laws there may differ from those where you live. For transfers from the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, we use appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.
9. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
Access the personal information we hold about you and get a portable copy
Correct inaccurate information
Delete your personal information
Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information, targeted advertising, and profiling
Limit our use of sensitive personal information
Withdraw consent at any time, without affecting processing that already happened
Object to or restrict certain processing (EEA, UK, and similar jurisdictions)
Not be discriminated against for exercising these rights
How to exercise them. Use your in-app settings or email adam@getinsteadof.com. You can delete your account directly in the app at Settings > Account > Delete Account. We will verify your identity before acting and respond within the time required by law (generally 30–45 days). You may use an authorized agent where the law allows.
Appeals. If we deny your request, you can appeal by replying to our decision or emailing adam@getinsteadof.com with “Appeal” in the subject line. If you are not satisfied with the outcome, you may contact your state attorney general or, in the EEA or UK, your local data protection authority.
California residents. In the past 12 months we collected the categories of information in section 2, for the purposes in section 3, and disclosed them to the categories of recipients in section 4. We do not sell personal information for money. We may “share” device and usage data of adult users for targeted advertising, and you can opt out as described in section 7. We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of consumers under 16.
10. Changes and contact
Changes to this policy. We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the new version with an updated effective date. If the changes are material, we will notify you in the app or by email before they take effect. Where the law requires it, we will ask for consent again.
